Joe's new book is now available!
Ramblings of an Old Codger
The life story of a nearly famous folk singer
The book is Joe's project and may be ordered from this page, or from
Traditional Arts Development. Whichever page you order it from the
communication goes direct to Joe. All
payments are processed, via PayPal, under direct control of Joe
Stead, who will deal with all the orders.
The book is a large format book priced at £40. It is a physically large book, full colour throughout, hardback and with lots of photographs. There is also a CD with 17 of Joe’s best songs. Song texts and notes are included in the book. Because of the size, postal costs are substantial. The buttons below allow you to order the book including delivery charges to where you live. All payments are processed by PayPal - to ensure proper security - but you don’t need to have a PayPal account to process any transactions. You can use any credit or debit card, but PayPal will handle the process.
The first edition of the book appeared in July 2016; it has nearly sold out and a second edition is in the pipeline ready for Christmas orders
Here are some comments from those who have already bought it …
If your memory should ever fail you when looking back at who did what with whom in the folk world, then fear not. Joe was probably there, or nearby, at the time and he’ll put you right. He’s encountered just about everybody over the years and remembers it all as if it were yesterday. Fair play to the man, and a great read!

A fantastic read... Joe Stead makes the people, the places and the music come alive. I couldn't put it down. Whether you are into folk music or not, you will love it.

Hi Joe, I finished your Ramblings late last night. What a riveting read. I couldn't put it down once started, and now plan to read it all again to be transported through time and place with so many names from the past and present. Liam rang me over the weekend to say 'Joe's book's good isn't it' and he hadn't even reached the bit about West Ham F.C.

What a magnificent achievement, Joe. Thank you so much. It's not only a personal memento of all your contributions to the folk music world, but a valuable resource for anyone with an interest in our sort of music. I'm really thrilled to have a copy. May your health improve with every turn of the page that people make as they delve into their copies and gape in wonder at photos of heroes past and present.
I particularly enjoy the photos of you! (I've still got a big poster of you lining my t shirt drawer!)

Hi Joe, Finished it! A thoroughly enjoyable read although many of the performers' names didn't mean too much to me - I never was much of a folksong man. An interesting life you've led Joe - you certainly haven't wasted your time on this mortal coil. Once again, congratulations on the book (beautifully produced and designed) and on having the courage to put your life out there.
